Tianyang  LIU

The solo career of Chinese double bassist Tianyang LIU naturally includes China but also the United States.

He is currently teaching at the Beijing  Central Conservatory of Music.

    Chinese-born double bassist Tianyang Liu gained international attention for winning first prize and the prize for best performance of a required new work in the 2013 ISB Solo Competition.

 

     Winner of several International Competitions since 2010, he frequently performs solo in the United States and Asia, giving performances and master classes at numerous international Festivals and Conservatories, such as Beijing, Shanghai, Sichuan, Hunan, Singapore, San Francisco, New York, Seattle, Houston, Fort Worth, Denver and Minneapolis.

 

        Mr. Liu has performed as a soloist with the University of North Texas Symphony Orchestra and the San Francisco Conservatory Symphony Orchestra. He recorded a solo album for double bass and piano “Prière” in 2019.

 

Additionally, he has been featured on radio and magazines including The Strad, APM and BBC.

        Mr. Liu served as assistant principal bass of the Houston Ballet Orchestra. In 2019, he became a faculty member of the Beijing Central Conservatory of Music. His students have won numerous national and international competitions and solo auditions.

He benefited from the teaching of Paul Ellison, Scott Pingel, Jeff Bradetich, Jun Xia Huo, Da Fu and Zhen An Yang.

TianYang LIU plays an instrument built by Angelo del Toppani in 1736.
