Martin ROSSO

Argentinian double bassist Martin ROSSO currently plays at the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie (Brussels) and teaches at the LUCA School of Arts in Louvain.

Martin Rosso has built a dynamic and intense musical career, harmoniously combining his role at the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie, his solo performances and his passion for teaching.

A passionate advocate of the solo double bass repertoire, Martin has performed extensively as a soloist in Belgium and abroad. He co-founded the BAS ensemble with harpist Annelies Boodts and pianist Dagmar Feyen to present captivating works for double bass.

Martin is a dedicated teacher with a strong background in music pedagogy. His teaching career is marked by guiding students through the complexities of the professional world. He is a double bass professor at the LUCA School of Arts in Leuven, Belgium.

Martin began his orchestral career with the National Symphony Orchestra of Argentina. In 2009, he joined the Brussels Philharmonic and, since 2014, has been a member of the orchestra of the Théâtre Royal de La Monnaie in Brussels. He has also performed with internationally renowned orchestras under the direction of renowned conductors such as Daniel Barenboin, Zubin Mehta, Lorin Maazel, Gustavo Dudamel, Riccardo Chailly, Riccardo Muti, Daniele Gatti, Lahav Shani, and many others.

Born in Buenos Aires, Martin began his musical training at the National Conservatory of Music. Rewarded with numerous scholarships and awards, he benefited from the generous support of the Antorchas Foundation and the Fulbright Commission to pursue graduate studies at Carnegie Mellon University, where he earned a Master of Music degree from Jeffrey Turner, as well as from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to pursue postgraduate studies in Italy under Giusseppe Ettorre.
He plays a "Rosso Model" double bass, custom-made for him in 2018 by British luthier Martin Penning. Based in Brussels, Martin regularly returns to Buenos Aires to teach and further his research on Argentine music.
